Frosty Feshie

// January 21st, 2011 // Comments Off // Holidays, Work

In my new role as trainer of booker, I have had to run at Feshie, on Wednesday I put skeena, keisha and min in with booker, raz and Juno and we had a ball running the loop, overtaking 3 teams with barely a glance.

Thursday first light it was probably -5 and I took my three with Sid following to learn the route. We flew and the girls had frosted chests and chins when we got back. It doesn’t get much better than that ever

Aviemore the journey

So in a much calmer state than last year we set off on time into the darkness. Travel lodge was fine – although the nightmare was surreal, and we met up at the Penrith little chef for breakfast and started the holiday in style with the keen’s, the sandfords’s and mr givens. The redwoods, well they were in York still.

Lovely day, sunny and clear, we all travelled to Stirling services and stopped for coffee – well it is a holiday! – the redwoods were still in York. Out of Stirling, police car comes past at 100 mph, hmmm. Up toward the roundabout, draw to halt, no traffic other way, turn off engine, all out on carriage way, open doors for warm dogs, eat cake, clean wing mirrors……..mel looks incident up on phone.

We are stuck because there is a loose cow on the A9! One and a quarter hours later we hear shots and then we all move – surreal.

Rest of journey fine, well apart from the dead sheep….just needed a pig for the mixed grill.

Forest Of Dean

// January 21st, 2011 // Comments Off // Beauceron, Work

For the first time in well over 10 years we decided to go back to the FOD to race. It has been running under the ABSA banner for 8 or so years and is currently a night and day run. You can stay over night in the car park and there is great cafe on site.

As I have had to take up being a musher again Keith had the four, mobs, pix, gracie and Indy and I had booker with Juno and raz. I HATE NIGHT RUNS! Boy was it warm, we ran at 11 degrees both days. Keith flew on the sat night and was like a junkie with a complete rush and then the munchies. His quote re snubbing was ‘ I’m so happy I’ll just float not kneel! I hated my run, and Juno did too, plus I had the dear! Sunday, Keith kept his lead to win and although I made up time on stu, I came 2nd.

Sat night saw an excellent talk on Antarctica in the 50′s including photos and a film.

Altogether a fab weekend

Booker Prize for Excellence

// June 24th, 2004 // Comments Off // Food, Work

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to do some Judging for the Booker Prize for Excellence in the Catering Categories. This involved eating lots of nice food – no hardship there for me! – filling in lots of forms, and wielding a mean video.

Today saw the Black Tie Dinner for 550 people to make the Awards, and I was invited along to this. As a VIP, I got the whole package, including overnight accommodation at the 4 Star Forest of Arden Hotel, very comfy.

The Dinner was held at Arbury Hall in a marquee in the grounds of the Stately Home. We looked out across the lake to the fairy tale house, rather lovely for watching the fire work display.

I was lucky enough to be seated on Frankie Detorri’s table, great fun, the compere was Sanjeev Bhaskar (from the Kumars at No 42) and the lovely Gordon Ramsey made a typically bleep rated guest appearance.

All in all a good night out.
