Bournemouth

// August 10th, 2009 // Comments Off // Showing

For the second Monday in a row we had a wet day out at a Champ Show as the annual trip to Bournemouth took place.  I had only entered Indy & Julie Baldwin had an entry of  68 for her second appointment.  We got a third in PG, although Julie and I were nearly crying with laughter at our abysmal attempt at handling between us, matched only in entertainment value by the most appalling display of bad ring etiquette, from a relative newcomer to showing, that I have possibly ever experienced – ho hum.

Best part of the Show was buying fab puppy toys, which will no doubt make an appearance in future puppy pictures – pups are now three weeks old and their latest pinups are available via the flickr link on the site

Paignton

Paignton has moved both venue and date, hmm, obviously the lovely sunny weather – it is August – wasn’t booked, and seemingly the excellent ice-cream vans that used to do ice-creams with a scoop of clotted cream on top don’t frequent the new venue.

Charlie drove down with me and it was great to hear more about his time in Finland and his thousands of miles on snow, how lucky was he to get to do that, and what a great person he is growing into.

The show saw Nigel Richards giving his first set of CC’s and even though I’d told him all week it was possible, it was lovely to see Paul make up Rupert – wooohooo – we done to you both and to Debi for breeding her first Champion, roll on Ch Winterdance Jasper Carrott at Nashanessen being KC confirmed.

Indy was shown by Paul and I was pleased with her 3rd in Post Grad. Sophie then hit paydirt  as well with the bitch CC – handled as usual by Krys, so lady luck was obviously sprinkling dust around on Sunday night. Well done to all the winners.

Off we trooped (in the rain) to the bar to celebrate a with Laurent Perrier Rose and home made cake, Rupert just kept looking surprised on being kissed and patted.  Kirk & Kath, Sharion & Martin, and a number of Malamute mates joined us and we also commiserated with Anne who had just missed out on making up Harley – damn stupid single CC’s – his time WILL come

Luckily the drive home only took 3 hours so then it was time to remeet the rapidly growing pups

SUSAN LIVINGSTONE

// July 29th, 2009 // Comments Off // Gossip

On the 20th July the Siberian world lost one of it’s best ambassadors when Susan suddenly died.

Today is her funeral and sadly I couldn’t be there, however I shared a silent thought at 2.15 and tonight will raise a toast in her memory.

God speed Susan, hope you had tidbits ready for Beanie

South Wales

Last year South Wales moved to Usk and this was the first year I had attended the new show ground. Well the ring was HUGE and Mrs McRae really chose to make good long use of all that space – just wait until she is moaning next time we run round the ring together, I’ll remind her of her cruelty! That is however about the only thing going for the show. The layout was so spread out that the venue looked barren all day and no one seemed to be visiting th trade stands. Really they could use the space to do the same as Border Union & allow the cars to park behind the appropriate benching tents.

Ozzy took his 5th Post Graduate win in a row – he really is a special boy – and Juno, along with just about everyone else, was in the largest class of the day. She made the first cut, then the second, but was not placed. Patsy made cut and Toni – out in just very skimpy underwear – took 3rd in Open.

Blackpool

Having spent all day Saturday closeted in a Committee meeting, whilst the weather raged outside I really was in two minds about the long trek to Blackpool. I should have listened to my inner self! A fast three hour trip up, led to a muddy field & benching are…great with the two whites, and a wind that blew constantly in one direction, making you feel like you wanted to lean like the trees on an exposed hill eventually do.

Last year we had a heaven sent ring, this year it was just adequate, however as the Judge kept movement to a minimum, an interesting concept in a working breed, I don’t know that the ring size mattered.

Ozzie won his 4th Post Graduate on the trot, and my three all walked.

The journey home as ever took hours & hours, the only bright point was that I hadn’t wasted time washing anyone.

Border Union

After an indecently early start we rounded the corner, having followed the road alongside the River to see Kelso spread out before us, on an unseasonably cold June morning. This is probably my favourite show for its setup with the parking right next to the benches. However this year we were dogged by the weather all day.

Having sorted the Van, it was time to sit by the ring and watch Lindsey, on her first time of giving CC’s, assess some of her Dog classes. BIG mistake. It was brassic. Off to put more clothes on! Still cold. Then it rained. Bravely she kept us out. Then it dried up, the other rings stayed put, we stayed out. In honesty I would rather show in the rain than be put in the sad excuses they give you at Champ Shows for wet weather rings, but as it beat down on the backs of my legs, I had to wonder how mad we all are.

Oz flew the flag well again with his third win on the trot in Post Graduate. Juno managed a 2nd her Post Grad class. Patsy, who was so wet when I took her in she resembled a spiky Punk took first and then Em & Toni who were both in Open let us down by both switching off entirely & just scraping 3rd for Toni & 4th for Em.

Back in for the Challenge with a nicely towelled off Patsy & she managed to win her second CC. Cub however was taking his 27th! and he took BOB.

Normally we would stay for the Group but the Van heater & the call of the Bar sent us on our way to the Metal Bridge Inn for a couple of nights of good food & genial hospitality….plus the sweetest Lakeland Terrier puppy – I WANT ONE!

Birmingham Champ Show

// May 9th, 2004 // Comments Off // Showing

Had a nice day out at Birmingham today under John Carter. Juno, in her last Junior class managed a credible third…especially good as the Judge likes greys! So she has now qualified for Crufts. Toni got a 4th in Open.

The Show seems to be settling in at Stafford, but we still seemed to be benched as far as possible from our rings, passing a number of other breeds to get from one to the other!
